Located in the tropical South Pacific surrounded by pristine oceans and white sandy beaches, Port Denarau Marina, on Fiji’s West Coast is positioned as the center of yachting activity in Fiji. In February, the Marina completed a (NZ) $2 million floating jetty, which added 46 berths to the small island.

The project was built as a joint effort between Bellingham Marine New Zealand and the Skeggs Group of New Zealand. Designed to cater to mega yachts and to meet the growing demand for slips in the Fijian Islands, the new jetty at Port Denarau Marina offers 46 berths ranging in length from 12 meters to 65 meters.More

More than 20 yachts are expected to race to Denarau in May in an exciting continuation of New Zealand-Fiji ocean sailing.

Some of the fastest yachts in New Zealand will vie for Auckland-Denarau line honours and the President’s Cup.

They include such famous racers as G3, Ran Tan and Wired.

An entry from the Royal Suva Yacht Club will also hopefully take part and fly the Fiji flag.More

The quality of the yacht and cruising experience in Fiji really enhances the overall appeal and depth of the destination, Tourism Fiji chairman Patrick Wong says.

Mr Wong said with an increase in Fiji marinas and a growth in yachts cruising worldwide and the Pacific, there was ongoing potential for an increase in the yachting market.

The tourism industry welcomes the first cruise ship to arrive in Fiji this year. The Pacific Dawn berthed at Port Denarau in Nadi yesterday carrying more than 200 passengers.

The cruise liner sailed from Brisbane, Australia for a stop-over in Isle of Pines, New Caledonia and Mystery Island in Vanuatu before reaching Fiji.More
