Last yacht arrives

Farrago II finished the ANZ Auckland/ Port-Denarau Yacht Race 2010 at 4.30am yesterday.

All the boats have now finished what has been one of the longest offshore races to Fiji in recent years.

The lighter headwinds made for some challenging tactical decisions and most boats were watching their food supplies very carefully over the last few days.

The race had in store challenges for the yachts with a storm in the second day to light winds and no winds on their third day.

The line honours was taken by O Canada which crossed the finishing line at Navula Passage on Friday at 09:41:03.

Port Denarau Marina managing director Nigel Skeggs said the Auckland-Fiji race was a long standing event on the ocean racing calendar.

Skeggs said this year’s event had a lot of people following the race very closely and eagerly awaiting results.

Some of the boats will be staying on to enjoy the Fijian hospitality and warmer weather while some have already left for the return trip to NZ and others to Australia.

Overall results:

Line Honours: 1 O Canada, 2 Wired, 3 Ran Tan II; PHRF: 1 Skiddy Too, 2 Revs, 3 Lion NZ; IRC: 1 Bird on the Wing, 2 General Lee, 3 Revs; ORC 1 Revs, 2 Bullrush, 3 General Lee; Corinthian Division:1 Cheetah II, 2 Farrago II.

Testimonials from our clients

Thank you from SV Magic Dragon of Dart

My husband and I wanted to write to you to express our thanks to you and your team for making our time in Fiji so wonderful. We are a British family of five sailing on a boat called Magic Dragon and from the moment we had first contact with your marina last year to our departure yesterday, we have been treated like kings and queens by your amazing team. We have stayed on and off for periods last October and again over the past two months and have had a really memorable time. Your staff are so cheerful, helpful and friendly it has been an absolute joy to deal with.

I would especially like to say thank you to:

Ali - who worked wonders to squeeze us in every time and was so patient and helpful with a smile for us all, all of the time;

Mere - who has been a fountain of knowledge and is so helpful and friendly;

John - who again has been so kind and friendly; and

Avi - who pulled out all of the stops to help some friends in need of an urgent haul out after hitting the reef.

You have a tremendous team at Denarau and we will really miss them all! Thank you for being such a good place to base ourselves whilst in Fiji.

Jake Reid, Captain, SY Thalia

Nigel and his friendly team at Denarau Marina made myself and the crew of Thalia very welcome. They went out of their way to provide additional services that you would not usually expect from a marina. I highly recommend Denarau marina to any super yachts visiting the Pacific, it was one of the best marinas we have stayed in on our world cruise.
